Cultural Foundation

The Cultural Foundation amphitheatre was the setting for films that highlighted the UAE and a series of poetry readings by UAE poets.

A selection of documentaries, performance films and animated short movies were screened on a daily basis. They highlighted the unique narratives on the history and traditions of the United Arab Emirates.   

The performing arts programme for Qasr al Hosn Festival 2014 drew inspiration from Qasr al Hosn as a meeting place for the community, where people exchanged stories and poetic verses. The programme was designed as a daily marathon of solo poetry readings that are derived from the UAE’s oral narratives and collective memories. Poetry readings were by Saood Al Messabi, Hadi Al Mansoori, Hamdan Al Samahi, Ibrahim Al Shami, Rashid Al Mansoori, and Hamdan Al Mahrami.

WORKSHOPS

The Qasr al Hosn Cultural Foundation held Emirati heritage-themed workshops in designated zones. The workshops lasted approximately 45 minutes, and began on the hour every hour.

All scheduled workshops were free and could be booked in advance while at the festival. These operated on a first come, first served basis, and had limited capacity.

POETRY

For a period of nine days during the Qasr al Hosn Festival, the poet and TV presenter Saoud Al Kaabi introduced his colleagues, the Emirati poets: Hadi Al Mansoori, Rashed Al Mansoori, Hamdan Al Samahi, Saood Al Messabi, Hamdan Al Muharrami, and Ibrahim Al Shami.
